Up for sale is a vintage Tokai TSG-60, made in Japan in 1985.
This is a very nice mid-1980s Tokai SG-style model in classic Cherry Red finish. The serial number on the back of the headstock begins with “5,” indicating 1985 production.
The TSG-60 was the top model in Tokai’s TSG series at the time, making this a particularly appealing example for players and collectors of Japanese vintage guitars.
It features a mahogany body, mahogany neck, and rosewood fingerboard, giving it the classic SG-style construction and feel. The guitar is equipped with Kluson-style tuners with “DELUXE” stamping, and the pickups are Tokai “’57 PAF Vintage” humbuckers.
A particularly nice point about this example is that it remains all original. The pickups, electronics, hardware, tuners, pickguard, and other main parts appear to be original to the guitar.
The guitar is also very lightweight at only 2.79 kg / 6.15 lbs, which is a big part of the appeal of a good SG-style instrument. It feels comfortable, resonant, and lively in hand.
Cosmetically, this guitar is in very clean condition for its age. There are only small dings and light surface scratches, but overall it presents very nicely with a beautiful deep Cherry Red finish. The frets also remain in excellent condition, with more than 90% remaining.
It comes with a period-correct 1980s leather gig bag. The case has some age-related wear, including a small tear inside and one missing snap/button on the front pocket, but it is a very cool original-era accessory and matches the vintage character of the guitar very well.
