1962 Fender 6G9-B Tremolux head, serial# 02611

This is the “brown panel” 35-watt 6L6-powered 6G9-B version of this rare head. It’s in very good condition, considering age. Our electronics tech recently replaced the power cord with a modern 3-prong, replaced two filter capacitors and a cracked tube socket, and cleaned up several old solder joints. One missing 12AX7 tube was replaced with a new JJ tube. It is missing the tremolo footswitch, and the knurled thumbscrews which lock the head to a cabinet. Cosmetically, all the tolex and grill covering is intact. Could use a bit of cleaning, at most.

1961 Fender Tremolux cabinet, serial# S01069

Very rare (we have two). Reportedly less than 200 of these were built, only in 1961, using the much-touted "Tone Ring" technology.

Here's a descriptive quote from the "Fender Amps, the First Fifty Years" book: "The new separate enclosure featured an elaborate porting system, with the stock speakers mounted in a metal tone ring that was attached to a separate inner baffle board. This, in turn, was mounted on the rectangular baffle board, which was flush with the rest of the cabinet. In mounting the inner board to the outer, air space was left on the sides for low frequency waves coming off the back of the speaker to escape, hopefully in phase with the waves coming off the front of the speaker. This "bass reflex" method improved low-frequency response greatly, allowing the player to back off the amplifier's Bass control, freeing up more power for the middle and high frequencies. The result was a loud, full-range, distortion free sound."

As you can see in the photos, the original metal tone ring and the double baffle are all intact, as is the blonde tolex and chrome tilt legs. The grill cloth has one small hole near the logo. The speaker is a Jensen P10F, with a 1961 date code, but we don't know if it is original.

We have this rig on consignment but we have no available information prior to that owner. We have tested the head and both cabinets (together), and it is a fantastic-sounding rig. The amp and the cabinet are being sold as a package.

At this time, this will be a local pickup only sale....no shipping, until we can locate proper safe shipping containers.
