The BOSS SP-202 Dr. Sample (1998) is a compact, battery-powered portable sampler designed for DJs and lo-fi producers, featuring 16-bit sound, built-in effects, and a signature gritty sound. It offers 4-voice polyphony, internal mic/line sampling, and 4 sampling modes ranging from Hi-Fi (31.25 kHz) to Lo-Fi (3.91 kHz). It is widely regarded as a classic "lo-fi" machine, often favored for its unique, crunchy sound character, making it a forerunner to the more advanced SP-303 and SP-404 models. There are videos out there all about how the quality of the sound on the 202 has never quite been the same in future models.
