Title:
Vintage Gibson Les Paul Junior Double Cut - restored / modified, Special-style dual P-90s, exact year unconfirmed
Description:
Offered here is an authentic modified vintage Gibson Les Paul Junior Double Cut in cherry, now configured in a Special-style dual P-90 / four-knob layout.
I contacted Gibson directly with detailed photos. Gibson confirmed that double-cut Les Paul Junior and Les Paul Special models were introduced in 1958, not 1956. Because of the level of modification and the 4-digit ink-stamped serial, they would not conclusively date this guitar from the serial alone. Based on that response, I am selling this honestly as an authentic modified vintage Gibson Les Paul Junior Double Cut, exact year unconfirmed but Gibson said it was most likely a 1958.
This is not a collector-grade all-original Junior. It is a real vintage Gibson player with significant restoration and conversion history.
Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar worked on the instrument in 2017. Their written description states that the guitar had already been heavily modified before their work. They reported that the neck pickup cavity had been routed too deep, which compromised the neck joint / tenon area and required major structural correction. Their work included rebuilding the neck joint, creating a more correct neck pickup route, correcting the control cavity, inlaying mahogany into altered areas, and doing cherry lacquer touch-up. During that process, they converted the guitar to its current Special-style two-pickup / four-knob configuration. The original pickup and pots are no longer in the guitar.
What this means in practical terms:
- authentic vintage Gibson body/neck platform
- professionally restored and structurally repaired player
- Special-style dual P-90 configuration
- replaced electronics
- replaced tuners
- visible cosmetic wear, finish disturbance, overspray / touch-up, and signs of prior work consistent with its history
The upside is simple: it plays well, feels like an old Gibson, and has the resonance, character, and vibe that make these guitars special. This is for someone who wants a genuine vintage Gibson player, not a museum-piece original example.
Please review all photos carefully. I’m happy to provide additional close-ups of the serial, control cavity, neck heel, back of neck, headstock, and pickup areas to serious buyers. I want the next owner to know exactly what this is: a legitimate modified vintage Gibson Les Paul Junior Double Cut with substantial restoration history, now set up as a unique and highly playable Special-style instrument.
