The Story
This isn't a drum I found at a garage sale or a pawn shop. I bought this 14"x4" Honey Yellow beauty brand new in 2005, and it has spent nearly every day since then protected by its custom-ordered (and color-adjacent) Humes & Berg Enduro case. If you’ve been hunting for a "Made in Japan" era Yamaha in collector-grade condition, this is the one.

The Pedigree
Dating back to September 2004 (Serial: QKP3842), this snare was handcrafted at the legendary Yamaha facility in Japan. It features the now-discontinued Nouveau quick-release lugs. These aren't just a cool aesthetic; they allow the shell to vibrate more freely than standard lugs and make head changes a 60-second task.

The Sound
The 4" depth is the "secret weapon" for many session drummers. It gives you that sharp, articulate "crack" that cuts through a mix, but because it's a premium Maple Custom Absolute shell, it retains a surprising amount of warmth and body.

My favorite thing about this drum is its range. It can function choked tight like a piccolo snare with plenty of high end without losing its reverb, but it also feels right at home tuned low and punchy like a much deeper snare. It doesn't sound "thin"; it sounds "precise."
