Gibson / 1962 Country Western
[Comment from the person in charge: Hoshino]
A 1962 Gibson Country Western.
This model, which appeared as a natural finish version of the Southern Jumbo, was initially known as "SJN" and was later officially released under the name "Country Western." 1962, the year this instrument was manufactured, was precisely a transitional period. This particular instrument is a rare example of the final round-shouldered model, made just before the design was changed to a square-shouldered configuration the following year.
It produces a soft, airy tone and enveloping mid-low frequencies characteristic of round-shouldered guitars. In chord strumming, richness and clarity coexist, while in fingerstyle playing, a dry attack gives way to rich, time-honored overtones. This is the kind of "sound" you only get from an instrument that has aged beautifully.
It delivers the soft, airy tone and enveloping mid-low frequencies unique to round-shouldered guitars.
The thin neck shape fits comfortably in the hand, providing a natural, sinking feel that follows the flow of finger movement. While the grip features a later over-lacquering treatment, this actually creates a touch that feels almost like it's clinging to the hand, resulting in a sense of unity that allows for focused playing.
The bridge is equipped with a long saddle, which directly receives string vibrations, producing a well-defined, core sound.
The exterior features a natural top with a rich amber color that reflects over 60 years of history, and subtle weather checking that spreads like a blurring. Even the texture around the pickguard and bridge tells the story of this instrument's history.
With its manufacturing history as the final round-shoulder model, the craftsmanship and selected wood of the time, and its excellent condition maintained to this day,
this is a vintage instrument that is still actively used to support music on the front lines.
