Fender Precision Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1975), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 647091, black polyester finish, alder body, maple neck, black tolex hard shell case.

This is a super clean example of a mid-'70s maple-neck Fender Precision in an eye-catching "tuxedo" look with a black finished body and white pickguard. At well under 9 Lbs. pounds, this one is a not featherweight but still a lighter bass than many '75s we have seen and has a nice bright growly tone.

The neck heel has a coded stamp red ink stamp that is pretty much illegible, but seems to indicate fabrication in 1975.

On the underside of the heel it carries an inspection ink stamp from Herb G., a Fender employee name we haven't seen that much. The original pots are dated to the 38th week of 1974. The features are typical for this period with the plastic finger rest now located above the strings, the slimmer more heavily poly-finished maple neck with 1 5/8" nut and the large black Fender logo decal. It is still fitted with the older late '60s-style white pickguard but with a small foil applique under the pots in the place of the old full-contact shielding plate.

This sharp-looking all-original bass plays and sounds great; an excellent gigging and recording instrument with a typically higher midrange tone and more proof that, even in the depths of the CBS-Fender era, the Precision Bass was a design that was almost foolproof!

Overall length is 46 in. (116.8 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.)., 8.8 lbs.

This is a super nice all-original bass, looking really not much played over the last 50 (!) years. There are some minor check lines, scuffs and handling marks to the body but overall the finish is in fantastic shape with little real wear of any kind. The neck is similar; the original frets show just the lightest wear and the maple fingerboard is very clean.

All hardware is original and complete. The tuners and strap buttons have some occlusion to the nickel plating simply from age. Overall this is one of the cleanest and outright coolest looking mid-'70s Precisions we have had, A tuxedo growler which we have left set up with roundwound strings that accentuate this quality. It rests in a pretty clean older but not original Fender-style HSC. Excellent Condition.
