Boutique Japanese 4-string bass from Quest International’s MD-MM Produce line.
Quest International was founded by Toshio Owa — a longtime figure in Japanese guitar and bass development whose background runs through Matsumoku, Aria-era planning and international instrument production during Japan’s golden-era manufacturing period. Later projects under Quest International included the boutique-oriented MD-MM Produce and Landscape lines.
The MDB-ELITE/S is not a mass-market Fender-style clone, but rather a niche Japanese producer-driven instrument with its own distinct identity and feel.
What stands out with this instrument is the response and compression. Notes stay focused and even across the neck, with a fast and immediate attack under the fingers.
The MDB-ELITE/S has a naturally compressed character and a punchy low-end response. The E-string especially has that tight low-end “push” that stays punchy and controlled without getting boomy.
Comfortable and balanced instrument overall, with smooth hardware feel and notably smooth tuners.
Compared to many traditional passive-style instruments, this bass feels a bit more modern and controlled in its response.

The instrument shows only minimal cosmetic signs of careful use. Very clean overall appearance with light handling wear only.

The “/S” suffix is part of the original model designation and does not indicate a short-scale instrument.
