Schecter California Classic 7301SHC - Transparent Amber Electric Guitar
The Schecter California Classic 7301SHC in Transparent Amber is the warmest and most traditionally inspired of the three California Classic finishes — and the only one that comes with gold hardware. Where the Sky Burst and Charcoal Burst pair their quilted maple tops with chrome appointments, the Trans Amber's gold hardware creates a visual pairing that references the great hollow and semi-hollow instruments of the 1950s and 1960s — warm amber tone over gold metal, a combination that has looked right on a guitar for over seventy years.
Beneath the finish the specification is the same premium platform as the rest of the California Classic range — Japanese-built, chambered swamp ash body, USA-wound pickups from Schecter's Pasadena facility, ebony fingerboard with stainless steel frets, and the Schecter Nouveau tremolo system. At Angkor Music Melbourne we are authorised Schecter dealers and have this guitar available to play at our Altona showroom.
Angkor Music — On the Trans Amber and Gold Hardware Pairing
The gold hardware is the detail that makes the Trans Amber stand apart from the other two California Classic finishes — and it is not a small thing. Gold on amber has a visual warmth and coherence that chrome simply cannot achieve on this colour. Players who gravitate to the Trans Amber tend to be those who appreciate the historical references the combination evokes — the great archtop and semi-hollow traditions, the warmth of 1950s craftsmanship in a modern, technically superior instrument. The quilted maple figure under the amber tint has a depth and richness that reads differently to the Sky Burst — less sky, more earth — and the gold hardware ties the whole instrument together into something genuinely cohesive.
The Trans Amber and Gold Hardware — Why It Matters
The hardware specification on the Trans Amber is gold with black screws — a specific and deliberate choice that differentiates this model from the chrome-hardware Sky Burst and Charcoal Burst versions. Gold hardware ages with character over time, developing a warm patina that suits the aesthetic of this instrument. The Schecter Nouveau Locking Tuners, the Nouveau 2-Point Tremolo and the metal dome knobs are all finished in gold, creating a consistent visual language across every metal component on the instrument.
For players who have always wanted the warmth of an amber finish with matching hardware — this is that guitar.
Japanese Craftsmanship — Why It Matters
The California Classic 7301SHC is manufactured in Japan — exceptional consistency in fretwork, neck geometry and finish quality at a standard that rivals USA production at this price point. The 22 jumbo stainless steel frets are dressed and polished to a level that makes first contact with this guitar immediately noticeable — clean, level, with no sharp edges. The Custom C neck in flamed maple with a 14" (355mm) fretboard radius is a modern profile that rewards both fast lead playing and comfortable chord work, with a careful taper from .79" at the first fret to .85" at the twelfth.
The Body — Chambered Swamp Ash with Quilted Maple Cap
- Chambered Swamp Ash: Swamp ash delivers bright, articulate fundamental tone with natural note definition and a slightly scooped midrange. Chambering reduces weight and opens up acoustic resonance — producing a more responsive, three-dimensional tonal character than a solid-body alternative. The Trans Amber finish over the quilted maple cap reveals the figure with a warmth and depth that transparent finishes do best.
- Solid Maple Cap with Quilted Maple Veneer: The maple cap adds brightness and attack to the swamp ash foundation. Under the amber tint the quilted maple figure takes on a honeyed, rich quality — the figure appears to glow from within in the right light.
- Natural Binding: Natural binding around the body edge complements both the amber finish and the gold hardware with warm, cohesive continuity.
- Arched Top Contour: Adds comfort and visual elegance following the tradition of the finest single-cutaway designs.
USA Pickups — The California Difference
Both pickups are wound in Schecter's own facility in Pasadena, California.
Schecter USA Pasadena Plus Trem Chrome (Bridge)
The Pasadena Plus Trem is wound specifically for tremolo-equipped guitars — maintaining clarity, definition and harmonic content under string movement. It delivers a focused attack with full tonal balance across clean, edge-of-breakup and high-gain applications. Note that the pickup itself retains a chrome cover on the Trans Amber model — a subtle contrast against the gold hardware that adds visual interest rather than uniformity.
Schecter USA MonsterTone (Neck)
The MonsterTone is Schecter's celebrated neck humbucker — warm, full and musical with exceptional note separation and a smooth high end that never hardens into harshness. In the neck position on the California Classic's chambered swamp ash body it produces a singing, vocal lead tone that is immediately inspiring for blues, jazz and melodic playing. On the Trans Amber, the MonsterTone's warmth feels particularly well matched to the instrument's overall aesthetic character.
Push-Pull Controls and 5-Way Switching
Both volume and tone controls are push-pull pots enabling coil splitting, and the 5-way lever provides a full range of pickup combinations — single-coil and humbucker tones that extend well beyond what a two-pickup instrument might suggest.
Hardware — Gold Schecter Nouveau 2-Point Tremolo
The gold-finished Schecter Nouveau 2-Point Tremolo with Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut and gold Schecter Nouveau Locking Tuners delivers smooth, stable tremolo action with excellent return-to-pitch performance. The self-lubricating Tusq nut eliminates friction-based tuning instability, and the locking tuners simplify string changes while adding further tuning stability. Together these three components create a tremolo system that performs reliably under sustained use.
The Ebony Fingerboard
Ebony provides clean, articulate note attack with exceptional definition — the ideal complement to this instrument's tonal character. Mother of pearl dot inlays with Luminlay side markers add position clarity and a refined visual detail that suits the warm aesthetic of the Trans Amber finish.
Available Finishes
The California Classic is also available at Angkor Music in Trans Sky Burst (chrome hardware) and Charcoal Burst (chrome hardware). The Trans Amber is the only finish in the range with gold hardware. Contact us or visit our Altona showroom to compare all three in person.
