Greetings, bass shoppers. I picked this beauty up at Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville last March. As the note that came with the bass from Carter Vintage says, this bass has had a fairly recent neck and body refinish. It's been played some since the work was done, so it has (very) minor scuffing and a tiny bump or two, but the overall impression it gives is that of a bass right off the wall at Guitar Center, even though it's 58 years old. All of the electronics and knobs have been replaced - the new pickup is a Fender, according to Carter, but I don't know which one, exactly. It sounds just like a classic Fender should - the old wood really does make a difference. The strings are a new set of Pino Palladino flats, which contribute further to the vintage vibe of the bass when played. Hardware has also been updated; the note in the box says that the bridge and tuners are in the (original) case; the bridge actually is, the tuners are not. You can see that the (very clear) neck stamp is 5JAN68B. The neck, including the truss rod, adjusts easily and sets up beautifully; I wouldn't be surprised if the refinish included a refret, as the frets are perfect. There is a thin sandpaper shim in the neck pocket. Weight is 8 lbs., 8 oz.
