This infamous, devilish high-end custom variant of the Gibson SG draws on the aesthetics of the legendary Les Paul Custom and applies them to the SG body style. The result: a powerful-sounding, superb-playing, and majestic-looking instrument!

Featuring a select mahogany body with a total weight under a thin ebony nitrocellulose high-gloss finish and equipped with gold hardware, the 2017 Gibson Custom Shop SG Custom presented here offers a modern-styled hard rock workhorse. The mahogany neck tenon, deeply glued into the body—aka the “Long Neck Tenon”—ensures efficient tone transmission and the ultimate creamy sustain.

Plugged into an amp, two of Gibson’s very best humbucking pickups—the 490R at the neck and the 498T at the bridge—deliver assertiveness, dynamics, and enormous versatility. It delivers rich, warm, thick, and yet clearly articulated rock sounds à la AC/DC or Greta Van Fleet. At the same time, the instrument also impresses away from the gain knob with a balanced tone that’s perfect for blues and, yes, even clean jazz!

Thanks to the double cutaway, slim C-shaped neck profile, and the 42.9mm corian nut, the guitar feels great in the hand right away and—typical of an SG—plays beautifully all the way up to the highest registers of the Richlite fretboard, which is equipped with 22 medium jumbo frets.

This Gibson SG Custom is in excellent condition and technically flawless. Visually, there is only occasional fine superficial wear, and the gold hardware has a subtle silver patina (see photos). The frets are flawless.
