So, this synthesizer plainly has been out in the sun. BUT, after my factory reset, I found this very reliable and GORGEOUS sounding... VERY lovely. I'm moving up to a Triton Extreme, so I'd like to see this X50 off to a good home.
There's some very convincing YT videos and net documentation about people cleaning sun damage from synth keys using strong hair peroxide... 40 strength, say. Best to ventilate the room you use, to avoid fatal asphyxiation, and to study the method thoroughly.
I'm a huge analogue snob... and I have to say, for digital emulation of analog... I'd go with this X50 or the Roland DS series, over the Yamaha AN1x, the Alesis Ion/Micron, or the Cobalt... certainly anything else Roland. The Ion and Micron have a unique and worthy VA engine, a voice of its own that holds up even today, but... this X50 with its 48kHz rate has more of the, "warmth" and "glue", I wanna say. I'd use this on stage for analog leads and bass, if my genuine analog units fritzed during sound check. It could even sound as "phat" and glazed and flavorful as a Novation Bass Station II. Also some grand VPM leads, a la the song "Sandstorm" or Apoptygma Berzerk's "Nonstop Violence". For digital glitch distorted trance or neuro or goth or industrial, also very good. This is NOT just a bread-and-butter rompler, not at all. You can really get as ethereal, abstract or dancey as you want.
