This 1997 Fender American Vintage Reissue ’52 Telecaster in Copper is an uncommon example from the AVRI line, finished in a colour rarely seen on this model. While the ’52 reissue is typically associated with Butterscotch Blonde, occasional special finishes such as this were produced in far smaller numbers, making them notably less common than standard examples.
Built in the USA as part of Fender’s American Vintage series, the guitar follows period-correct early-1950s Telecaster specifications, with an ash body, one-piece maple neck, and the familiar 7.25” radius and vintage-style frets. The neck profile reflects the substantial feel of early ’50s instruments, offering a comfortable, rounded grip that suits both rhythm and lead playing.
Electronics consist of a pair of vintage-style single-coil pickups, delivering the classic Telecaster voice—clear, direct, and highly responsive. The volume pot has been replaced with a 1 meg unit, giving the guitar a slightly more open and immediate top end, while the original pot and capacitor are retained in the case. From bright, cutting bridge tones to warmer, rounded neck sounds, the guitar covers the expected range with the immediacy and character associated with early Fender designs.
The Copper finish sets this example apart visually, giving it a more distinctive appearance while retaining the understated aesthetic of the original design. Finishes of this type were produced in limited numbers compared to standard catalogue colours, adding an extra layer of interest for collectors and those seeking something slightly less typical.
Condition is excellent overall, with only light signs of use. There is a small ding to the side of the headstock, and the high E tuning peg is slightly bent, though this does not affect functionality or tuning stability. The pickguard also lifts away slightly from the body. The guitar otherwise presents extremely cleanly and has clearly been well looked after.
It is supplied with its original Fender tweed hard case, certificate of authenticity, the original bridge assembly, and a substantial amount of original case candy and accompanying paperwork, making it a particularly complete example.
A less commonly encountered variation of the American Vintage ’52 Telecaster, this 1997 model combines period-correct construction with an unusual factory finish, offering both strong playability and a degree of collectability beyond standard examples.
