This amp was a rescue of sorts, purchased from a player who had one Fender too many...at least according to his family. The amp would break into spontaneous oscillations due to a modification (Channel Stacking) that was installed. The mod was removed during the overhaul. It has been completely disassembled and rebuilt. The details of the most recent and relevant work are below, but first the Date Codes:
- 1966 Fender Pro Reverb, 2x12” combo. Chassis type: AA165
- Serial Number: A 03519 (1966)
- Transformer Date Codes: 606-5-39, 606-5-47, 606-550, all indicate 1965 as the Date of manufacture.
- Speaker Codes: 328 548= Utah 48th week of 1965. Reconed, see photos.
- Pro Reverb AA165 (blackface) Serial No: A02700 to A09200 =1966.
The amplifier has been completely disassembled and reconstructed, with the following changes: (additional photos available by request.)
- A Channel Stacking Modification was removed, and wiring restored to original condition.
- Install Grounded 3 wire power cord, bypass cap removed.
- All electrolytic caps replaced with new 105º C types
- All 100K coupling resistors replaced with low noise Metal types
- 3 Octal Tube sockets replaced with Ceramic types.
- 470Ω 1 Watt and 1500Ω 1/2 W 6L6 grid resistors replaced w Metal, 2 watt and 1 watt respectively.
- Speakers reconed, one driver had the pole piece reset.
- Tubes have been replaced with vintage 7025s, 12AT7s, 12AX7s, 5881s all tested on a TV7/D.
- Chassis noise Shield beefed up.
- Noise shield added to Reverb tank
- Bright switches intermittent, both replaced with 3 position sliders, center position is normal, top bright, bottom, not so bright (Bright (top) position has stock 120pf cap, bottom position has 60pf cap).
- All pots, switches, jacks and plugs cleaned, degreased and treated.
- Front panel paint and lettering are in fair to good condition. There are a few spots where the black paint has been dinged.
