For sale is a Jensen Chicago made PM12GT alnico speaker. It is 12”, 8 ohms, rated at 20w. This is an excellent way to obtain a vintage P12Q speaker and not pay north of $500.
I picked this up from an amp builder a few years ago when I told him I was looking for a vintage P12Q. Based on his info and my research, the PM12GT was made from the mid 40’s to early 60’s. This date code indicates 1946 as the build year. Alnico magnet weight was 11-14oz, and voice coils were 1” and 1.25”. This is a 1.25” VC like the P12Q.
the speaker was reconed by Neal’s speakers, experts in vintage recones. The cone is identical to the Weber 12A125A cone. Yields a tight bass, present but not overbearing mids, and detailed treble without being harsh. Holds up well when cranked.
I have played this up against a vintage P12Q, and it performs equally in terms of volume and sustain...most importantly, it has the tone!
Selling only because I sold my vintage Tweed Deluxe, and I used this speaker to help preserve the original speaker. I also have a Neal’s reconed P12R for sale. I liked the PM12GT for live / louder gigs, and the P12R for the thinner / less efficient vintage sound for recording.
The speaker has about 20 - 25 hours on it. Broken in but not abused. if you want that vintage magnet and green teal basket at a nice price, shoot me an offer. I’m an experienced speaker shipper.
thanks for looking.
