TEAC A-4010S Automatic Reverse stereo reel-to-reel tape deck. Solid-state, 4-track, auto-reverse playback. Comes with the original Teac owner's manual. **Bench-tested condition (verified by me):** - Powers on, pilot lamp lights, no smoke or odor - Transport works in all modes (Play, FF, Rewind, Stop) - Capstan and pinch roller engage cleanly - Plays back from tape — preamps and playback path verified by ear - **Records to tape** — confirmed working, **with one known quirk** (see below) - Line input passes signal cleanly through both channels - VU meters respond properly - Both 7" reels mount and spin without binding **Known issue — record-enable button needs the occasional second press:** The record function works correctly once engaged, but the record-enable button doesn't always latch on the first press — usually two or three tries gets it. Once engaged, recording is clean and signal passes normally. This is the classic signature of a switch that wants a DeoxIT treatment plus some exercise (working the button repeatedly after spraying), and these buttons almost always come back to full reliability with that. Priced with this in mind. **What has NOT been done:** - No bench service performed (no head alignment, no calibration tape, no lubrication) - Heads have not been demagnetized — recommend a quick demag before extended use - Belts are presumed original — they work but a service is overdue if you plan heavy use - Record-enable switch has not been pulled and cleaned (see "Known issue" above) This is a fully functional vintage 1968-1972 era unit being sold as a working deck, not a freshly-serviced one. If you want a calibrated/serviced deck, please look elsewhere — those routinely sell for $750+ here.
