1971 to 1977 was the “copy era” of Ibanez Faithful Reproductions of Gibson, Fender and Rickenbacker electric guitars, also known as the “pre-lawsuit” era, presumably before threats from mainly Gibson stopped copy guitar production and led Ibanez to introduce its first original design electric guitar in 1977, the Iceman, and to start the great neck-thru Musician series. The early numbered models of Ibanez had a simple four digit model number, no name, that appeared in catalogs but not on the actual guitars. However each copy guitar was accurately modeled after one specific guitar and manufactured with great care. In fact these copies are so good Gibson and other manufacturers could not just ignore Ibanez and hope they would go away, so they threatened to sue Ibanez.
This 1972 Ibanez 1910 was only manufactured from 1971 to 1973. This beautiful Red Sunburst finish was the only one offered. It is also the only copy era electric guitar not modeled after a Gibson, Fender or Rickenbacker. The Japanese have a very respectful culture and Yamaha was the big dog of Japanese guitar makers at the time. The 1960s Yamaha SA50 was a distinctive 335-style guitar with unique slightly pointy upper bouts and the Ibanez 1910 mirrors the SA50 quite accurately. This well-preserved Ibanez 1910 electric guitar has a straight neck, good frets with only minor wear, and the electronics work well. There are a few scratches but this guitar is in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. It plays and sounds excellent. This is an amazing guitar And very hard to find in this condition.
This 1972 Red Sunburst Ibanez 1910 semi-hollow body guitar has body binding, two f-holes, a bolt-on neck, a 22-fret rosewood rounded fingerboard with pearl block inlays, an adjustable bridge, a vibrato tailpiece, and chrome hardware. The two single coil pickups are controlled with two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way switch. The raised black pickguard has been removed and I do not have it. There are three small screw holes left. I do not have the tremolo bar.
