This is a 1990 Charvel 650XL in metallic black. The finish is more like a very small metal flake than a metallic and it really shimmers in the light. And it's got the amazing big toothpaste logo; just a fantastic looking guitar all around.
I think it's in pretty good shape for a 36 year old guitar, but it's not perfect:
- small dings on the bottom edges and on the front
- lots of buckle rash on the back
- repaired finish on the headstock tip
None of the cosmetic issues affect playability, and I personally can't even see the headstock finish repair from the front. I tried my best to get all the major dings/scratches in the pictures above, so look carefully through them. There are other, smaller scrapes and micro-scratches elsewhere though that can be found on very close inspection.
This guitar is a fantastic player. Frets are in great shape and the action is lower than most of my other guitars. The neck is a very nice thin but not razor thin shape, but a little too D-shaped for me. It's not as heavy-shouldered as more modern Charvels and is almost C-shaped.
I'd say this is the most impressive "import" guitar I've ever owned. This was one of the top of the line models back in the day and honestly you can really tell.
Comes with a hardshell case, trem arm, and trem backplate+screws. I'm not sure if this is the original case or not but it's definitely old and has interesting twist latches.
Please no trade offers, but if you have any additional questions feel free to reach out.
