     Now for some background on this special microphone. Ever since sound motion pictures came out, technicians have struggled to pick up speech with sufficient clarity. Problem was, getting the mic close enough to the actors without the mic being seen by the camera!  Then there was the challenge of miking things from a distance without picking up unwanted noise. Well, in 1959, Electro-Voice solved those problems with their invention of the "shotgun" microphone, and it won the company an Academy Award! The 644 is a later version of their shotgun mic.
