I have a 2020 PRS S2 Singlecut here with its factory soft case and paperwork. This one features a beautiful flame maple top.
Conditionally, this guitar looks nice.
The body top looks very good. I found just a small amount of guitar pick strumming in the area between the selector switch and the neck pickup. There is also a similar light amount of superficial swirling on the forearm contour area. I did not find any heavy accumulation or built up patterns of swirling or playwear. There is a faint trace of signs of use on the brass adjustment stud that supports the bridge, but only superficial. The gloss finish and hardware still look crisp and attractive throughout.
The body sides and edges show three small marks around the output jack area. These are tiny surface marks about a millimeter or so in size, not large bumps or indentations. Along the lower body edge where it makes contact with your torso, I found a small section of light surface playwear. This is about a one inch square area of shallow superficial swirling, similar in consistency to guitar pick strumming. These are not deep or penetrating scratches, just the type of light wear you can see when turning the guitar under direct light. Beyond that, I did not find any notable marks or heavy wear on the body edges.
The body back shows a couple micro sized marks about the size of a pencil tip. I also found one small line shaped surface indentation above the back plate, about two to three millimeters long. As mentioned, there are a couple small clusters of surface swirling type playwear, but nothing I would classify as buckle rash or worming. There is no heavy playwear here, only a light scattering of superficial swirling.
The neck shaft contour looks and feels excellent with nothing to report there. The headstock shows one small finish chip on the upper edge, approximately 2 mm in size. It is minor. The rest of the headstock looks great. The frets are tall and full, showing no pitting, divots, or oxidation. They look nice and clean. The setup plays beautifully up and down the neck. It has an absolutely fantastic setup and excellent neck workmanship, as is typical of PRS. The electronics are working perfectly, and both the neck and bridge pickups have coil tap functionality.
So this one rates an 8.6/10 and grades as very good. This is a nice looking guitar with a moderate amount of light playwear. There are no major cosmetic issues, no singular standout marks, and no excessive surface swirling. It is structurally and sonically sound and plays phenomenally, as PRS guitars so often do.
This is a great all arounder do everything guitar. The S2 line tonally is not a huge departure from the "Core" line in my opinion. Arguably it is the best bracket for performance to price in comparison to the SE and Core lines.
This guitar has the classic combination of Mahogany topped by maple, with a rosewood fretboard. If you only could have one guitar made of three woods, this should be the selection in my opinion. This tonewood combo has detail and complexity and strong midrange presence and an almost three dimensional sound stage.
The singlecut model naturally has what i would describe as a thicker sound than it's double cut counterparts. The body is thicker and more compact, while being just slightly heavier and this translates to nice firm bass and low mid frequencies.
I find that the clean tones played with single coil mode ( it has a position knob that splits the coils) sound incredibly dynamic and cleans in general have an angelic sweetness to them. PRS are consistent in their USA core line, you are very very unlikely to encounter several of them and find that some sound good and some sound dead or bland. This guitar sounds refined and sophisticated.
Note that this listing may come down at anytime as I am a multi-platform seller and do sell locally and on my own Site as well in an effort to keep sales fluid. State sales tax will be charged on Reverb sales when applicable, so factor that in to your purchase.
I will immaculately pack it as well. I use quality shipping boxes, ample tape on all sides. And sufficient bubble wrap filler and bracing inside the box. And always Marked/denoted as fragile. I generally detune guitars 1/2 half step prior to shipment as well if needed.
Thank you for reading and considering!
