For sale we have a 1967 Gretsch Model 6119 Chet Atkins Tennessean in Dark Cherry Red finish (finish is heavily faded) with original Gretsch Branded hardshell case.
A quintessential mid-’60s Gretsch, this 1967 Tennessean embodies the brand’s shift toward a leaner, more feedback-resistant hollowbody design while retaining the unmistakable visual flair and jangly voice that defined the era. Famously associated with players like George Harrison, the Tennessean became a cornerstone of British Invasion tone and remains one of Gretsch’s most recognizable models.
This particular example, while having been played and enjoyed, is overall well-preserved and retains all of its original parts and components. The once Dark Cherry Red stained finish has faded to a medium brown color due to UV exposure over the years. The fading is more apparent on the top/forward facing surfaces of the guitar with the backside of both the body and neck retaining a bit more of the original red hue. The instrument shows a fair amount of cosmetic wear throughout with surface scuffs, scratches, dings and dents scattered throughout as well as fine lacquer checking throughout the body and neck. The original frets are present and do show a fair amount of play wear with light grooving across the first nine frets. Still, notes ring out with no dead spots and there is a decent amount of life left in them. The guitar is structurally sound with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. Overall a great playing and sounding Tennessean!
