Plug in a Strat and you’re instantly in late-’60s territory. Rare to find this complete and this clean.

Check out this demo video that I made: (WARNING: This pedal screams in the hands of a good guitarist, which I am not. You can still get a sense of this particular pedal's extraordinary range and tone. YouTube Link is below

This Captain Coconut (CC1) unit comes in the burgundy tone.  According to pedal guru Dave Fox, “the majority of Captain Coconuts were this color.  Total Burgundy – 103 units.” And the unit for sale here is #64.

If you’re chasing that late-’60s signal chain—Fuzz Foot → octave → ProVibe (e.g., Univibe)—this is one of the most thoughtfully executed, all-analog takes ever put in a single enclosure.

This is the original Foxrox Captain Coconut, in mint, collector-grade condition, complete with the original box and correct Foxrox wall wart. These don’t surface often in this condition, and certainly not this complete.

The Sound: A Hendrix-Era Rig Under One Hood

The Captain Coconut isn’t just a multi-effect—it’s a carefully tuned interaction of three classic circuits, designed to behave like a dialed-in vintage rig rather than isolated pedals.

Fuzz (Fuzz Foot circuit) -- Rich, harmonically complex fuzz with that organic, slightly unruly vintage character. Classic British Germanium PNP circuit with some much needed improvements.

  • Cleans up beautifully with guitar volume
  • Thick, vocal midrange without getting harsh
  • Responds to pick attack in a very “alive” way

This isn’t a modern, compressed fuzz—it’s dynamic, touch-sensitive, and unapologetically analog.

Octave Effect (Octron / Octavia-style) -- Classic upper-octave bloom that comes alive above the 12th fret.  Get that “Purple Haze”, “One rainy wish” upper-octave effect.

  • Singing, overtone-rich lead tones
  • Tracks best when you lean into it (just like the originals)
  • Can be blended for subtle harmonic enhancement or full-on psychedelic lead voice

Think “Purple Haze” meets violin sustain when dialed in right.

ProVibe (e.g., Univibe) -- A lush, throbby photocell-based modulation that nails the chewy swirl of a vintage Uni-Vibe.

  • Deep, dimensional pulse—not a chorus, not a phaser
  • Works beautifully both clean and into the fuzz
  • Adds that unmistakable 3D movement and depth to chords and leads

Set slow for that wide, hypnotic wash—or push it faster for more intensity and texture.  The ProVibe Effect has the original vibe sound.  Lush 3-D phasing chorus effect for that “Machine Gun”. “Bridge of Sighs” swishy vibe sound.  Center Control allows you to dial in all the greatest vibe towns.  Switch selects between CHORUS and VIBRATO modes, Just like the UniVibe.

Why the Original Matters

This first-generation Captain Coconut has a slightly more raw, immediate feel than later versions—less polished, more “on the edge,” in a way that vintage players tend to love. The interaction between the three effects feels organic and reactive, not overly tamed.

Condition

  • Near Mint / near-perfect cosmetic condition
  • Fully functional—no issues
  • Includes original box and correct Foxrox power supply (wall wart)

Final Word

This is not just a pedal—it’s a complete analog tone environment built around one of the most iconic guitar sounds ever recorded. Plug a Strat into this, roll back the volume a touch, and it immediately feels like you’re in that world.

!!! CAPTAIN COCONUT WARNING !!!

"This device delivers some serious fuzz, phasing and octave sounds. It's very tempting to over use it, to turn everthing on and wail endlessly. Here's some good advice; be subtle in your use of effects. If you kick in the Fuzzfoot, Provide and Octave every time you do a leead, you will quickly annoy your listeners -- and create a lot of noise. If you go back and listen to the recordings of Hendrix and Trower, you'll rearely find them using all of these effects simultaneously or even continuously through songs. It's really true that the less you use and effect, the more effective it is. A couple of the licks here and there say it all. Keep in mind that the Octave and FuzzFoot are high gain effects and are capable of creating a huge amount of noise, especially when used with a wah wah pedal and a guitar with single pickups. Tak all that, and add in the swishing sound of the Provide and you've got the noise generator from hell. If that's a sound you're looking for, Enjoy!"
