In 1961, when the Les Paul changed shape to become the SG, the Junior followed suit, though it wasn’t until 1963 that it officially took on the SG name. The construction is simple and effective: both the body and neck are mahogany, while the fingerboard is rosewood. This 1965 example has plenty going for it: first, its color—Polaris White—gives it a killer look. Secondly, while the Vibrola is visually appealing, it’s not always practical; this one was factory-built without it, featuring instead a wraparound bridge. Finally, as an early ’65, it still has the wider nut width of 42.8 mm. Of course, it shows signs of the past 60 years: the tuners have been replaced, it has been refretted, comes with a more recent case, and the volume knob has been changed (original included). A superb riff machine, both to play and to collect!
