The HC and HF-series pickups are Tom Anderson's response to customers seeking a more vintage voiced pickup.  If you start with the wide frequency band of the H-series pickups, then taper off the lows and highs, you get the HC/HF pickup.  They have a strong emphasis on the midrange frequencies and the higher in number you go with the HC/HF pickups, the more mids you will hear.  So the HC/HF1- represents the least amount of mids along with the lowest output, while the HC/HF3+ has the most amount of mids and the highest output.  The only difference between the HC and HF pickups is the HC has a metal cover over the coils and the HF has exposed black coils.

The HF1 has a really nice, full tone with a great mix of lows, mids, and highs that will be right at home in the neck position of any guitar.  It's got the tonal characteristics of vintage PAF pickups with extended highs and high-mids that provide more balance  It's got enough volume to match perfectly with the Anderson HF2 and HF2+.  Plus, it splits really well!
