1960 Gibson Super 400CC - Custom-built Charlie Christian PU by Pete Biltoft
For sale is a fantastic, beautiful, and exceptional Gibson Super 400 in superb condition. It's rare to come across a guitar with such compelling personality and captivating uniqueness.
The guitar has a warm and full tone, a balanced frequency spectrum, and plays beautifully. It has defined bass, characteristic mids, and silky-smooth highs. A subtle compression effect is noticeable while playing, making solo lines and chords sing in a musical way. A great blues or jazz guitar with long sustain!
This exquisite Super 400 features a warm Tobacco Sunburst finish with beautiful grain and impressive color depth.
It is in excellent condition and a real head-turner: With an impressive patina from 65 years of loving use, yet largely free of scratches and dings – with incredible brilliance and a beautifully glossy finish. Overall, this masterpiece shows only subtle signs of wear (except for the neck, of course), but no dents or scratches.
The neck is straight, action is perfect, and frets are still in very good condition. There are no breaks, repairs, or modifications whatsoever. This guitar is a true beauty and has a killer sound!
It impresses as a particularly elegant interpretation of the legendary Gibson hollows, boasting stylish looks and first-class sound. The S400 has a 43mm (1 11/16") nut width, and the flat C-profile neck is extremely comfortable to play.
The pickguard and ultra-thin Charlie Christian pickup from renowned California pickup builder Pete Biltoft were custom-made for this guitar, giving the originally all-acoustic S400 a stage-ready, highly distinctive sound when amplified.
The black/yellow original Gibson case shown in the photos is included. It has a slightly musty smell due to its age, and I personally always prefer to replace these older cases with newer ones. If you're interested, I also offer a very high-quality, beautiful custom-made Cedar Creek case, as seen in the last photos. You can find it in my other auctions.
The guitar can be tested and/or picked up in Cologne, Germany. I'm also happy to ship internationally.
Here are three videos recorded with the guitar: In the first and third, I am using a light tube tremolo from the amp, while the second one pushes the amp more aggressively, and the guitar is slightly distorted, thus demonstrating more of its blues potential.
Reverb only lets me feature one video. If you are interested in two more, please find this guitar in the Bay where you'll see three video links.
