Im selling my 1978 Ovation Magnum I Bass

These are very rare and sought after basses. The body is made out of solid mahogany, natural color. I personally love the unique body shape, it reminds me of the Gretsch Bo Diddley or some Supro models. This is one of the lowest serial numbers I’ve seen posted.

Electronics: Original Ovation Magnum pickups. The neck Pickup has individual poll volume pot settings, very unique in itself. 3-way toggle selector switch, and volume/tone controls for each pickup. All pots are stamped made in 1977 as you can see in the pictures. The bass has been modified throughout the years. First of all, originally it had two outputs one Mono and one stereo. The original owner modified this and cut the bottom part of pickguard to accommodate only a mono.

Neck: The second thing that was modified, the neck was replaced. The original owner didn’t like the ovation skinny neck and was replaced by Custom made one. I don’t have the details of who made it, but I can tell you that it’s neck heavy.

Neck Thickness (IN): 1.80" (1st fret), 2.35" (12th fret). Fingerboard Radius: 10.00". Neck is wide and skinny, Its a Bolt-on mahogany neck with unbound ebony fingerboard and dot inlays. It plays well and its setup to standard tuning.

Hardware: Original knobs and switch tip; the foam for the string mute is missing but the pull/push system works. If you want to use it you just need to add a new foam. The bracket that holds the pickups and the bridge have lost their color coating as you can see in the pictures. Most people just take them out and polish them to leave them looking in bare metal. I haven’t touched it, I’ll leave that decision to the new owner.

This is a player grade bass, it has scratches, dings and marks all over the body. What you’re getting is a very unique instrument, a one of a kind with the neck replacement. It just needs a good clean up and setup to your liking.

I’m including a very beaten up hardcase that fits the bass perfectly.

Please feel free to ask any questions or request any additional pictures. I will be glad to help you. Please do so before making the purchase.
