The Backun Model F clarinet has an absolutely massive sound to it. Many players & teachers feel that modern clarinets sometimes struggle to be able to take large amounts of air… not with the Backun Model F! This instrument allows you to play straight through without restriction but still handles with grace and ease even the softest dynamic passages. Furthermore, Backun has put together one of the finest engineered and assembled clarinets that I have ever come across. From the details of how the metal tenon caps are recessed into the bore providing a true flush bore, the graphite banded tenon, the stopper for the side Bb… across the entire instrument, Backun has put together something truly special!

-Cocobolo Wood
Cocobolo is a very dense wood and like the Grenadilla, Backun uses a premium quality, unstained Cocobolo for the Backun Model F Clarinet. The Cocobolo gives a broader and sweeter tone that is more open that the audience will hear as brighter and lighter. However, the player “behind” the clarinet will generally perceive the Cocobolo as the richer of the two because they are “hearing more” from the clarinet than they do with the Grenadilla.
