PitMix by Masque Sound History:
In the late 1990’s there was a need for broadway & touring theater productions for musicians to locally mix their sound into headphone / IEM without the use of a monitor engineer . The Pitmix was born. Designed by Robert Derby of Valvotronics who was working at Masque Sound at the time posed to management to build a high quality headphone mixing system with 16 Inputs and headphone amplifier. Valvotronics the Gain Ryder Compressor , Tube DI’s etc.
The components where a main unit w/ power and routing for the the 16 Channels via 19pr G-Block connectors…since that was/ is a standard multi cable connector for theater audio systems. This would feed 20? of these units per system.
These where very successful as the build quality & fidelity was outstanding. By the mid 2000’s these where discontinued with the release of the Aviom headphone system much lighter. connected w/ Cat5 cable. Audio wasn’t as good as the Pixmix but thats the way technologies goes sometimes.
We have a few of these special units that where made with local XLR inputs & output and have modified them w/ local power for a second life. Some of the older photo’s show these units being manufactured as they where all hand built here in NJ jersey
