Note: See short video in gallery showing how I pack a guitar. I set myself apart with my SETUPS and PACKING. I include setup sheet with each guitar.
You're looking at a 1999 Fender Toronado in a beautiful sunburst with offset body and large tortoise shell pickguard. Discontinued and rare, this is the earlier (and cooler looking) Toro with the dual Atomic Humbucker pickups. All electronics are great, and the guitar plays and sounds amazing.
Body contour on back and rare Gibson scale length of 24.75 inches. All stock. This is an early 2nd year production model. Comes with one of the nicer PRS gigbags I've seen, as well as Fender strap. Weight = 8lbs, 7oz.
Condition
Cosmetic imperfections are mild and include some dinks on the edges and very tiny stress cracks on either side of the neck joint (see pics, they are very tiny and thin). Overall this 27-year-vintage guitar looks great. Frets in very good condition with only mild wear. Harware pretty clean with some mild oxidation on tuners.
I have just gone through and completely cleaned every inch of the guitar. It will come to buyer very clean, set up and ready to play. Action is nice and it plays great all over the neck. All electronics work as they should--no issues.
Tone
These Toro's have two Fender Atomic humbuckers. They give you a nice thick sound but still maintain clarity. So while a true humbucker sound, they are not simply a "wall of noise" type pickup. You can capture a lot of different tones blending the two pickups or backing off slightly on your volume knob. (I do a full setup and expert packing: info below.) Thanks!
International
Please note, on Reverb, I ship to USA and Canada only. On eBay I ship worldwide with eBay International, which has the best pricing. cheers
Guitar Setup
Setup includes new strings (9s or 10s depending on what the nut is cut for), overall polish, cleaning any gunk off fingerboard, oiling neck, and polishing frets when necessary. We spray out any pots that are noisy, turn the truss rod (if necessary) and set string height at low-to-medium action depending on string buzz present. Since setup is highly subjective you may need to get it set to your particular needs by your personal luthier. Basses get the same treatment minus the string change. Thanks!
Packing
I use quality boxes, thick bubble wrap, and peanuts to pack guitars. I have a very high rate of successful guitar and bass shipping (meaning few damaged instruments). I have been doing this 15 years and know how to pack well--with or without a hard case. I wrote a detailed story with photos on how I pack a guitar, which you can find on my StillKickinMusic site blog. If you Google "Still Kickin - How to Pack a Guitar" you will find it. Thanks.
Manufacturer Info
The Fender Toronado was an electric guitar made by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. Introduced at NAMM in 1998, it is a part of the "Deluxe Series" of Fenders produced in Mexico, generally to higher specs than most "Standard" models. The Toronado features two Fender Atomic humbucking pickups, a rosewood fretboard, and four chrome knobs (2 volume and 2 tone). Many models also include a tortoise-shell pickguard. The headstock features the Fender "spaghetti" logo and sports vintage style Gotoh/Kluson tuners. The body shape shadows the designs of Fender's Jazzmaster and Jaguar guitars. The Toronado also has a 24.75" scale length—an unusual feature on a Fender guitar, as this scale length is usually associated with electric guitars manufactured by Gibson.
