This Dreadnaught Ibanzez Concord 684, circa 1978, was only made for four years in the mid-70’s. This is a beautifully preserved Japanese Ibanez “Pre-Lawsuit” Gibson Hummingbird knockoff. Serial number D780957. Spruce top,  Mahogany sides, back and neck, high gloss Cherry Sunburst finish, an ornate hummingbird pickguard (remarkably un-faded), a 21 fret rosewood fingerboard and beautifully ornate pearloid parallelogram inlay fret position markers, 25.5 scale length, and finally an adjustable rosewood bridge. If you look at most photos of Keith Richards playing acoustic in the seventies, he’s using a Hummingbird that looks just like this Ibanez. The Concord uses much the same design and materials as the Gibson: from the Spruce topwood and mahogany side & back woods to the rosewood fretboard, pickguard design and fret position markers. The seventies are considered an epic copycat era where great Japanese guitars were made for a fraction of the boutique price of "name brands". I have owned a Concord 684 continuously for 50 years, and it has great sentimental value to me (this one for six years; I gave the original '76 to my son). This guitar was set up in April '26 by a luthier who said he would have thought it’s 2020’s guitar, rather than a 50 year old beast. Guitar is in good condition with just enough cosmetic wear, dings, and marks on the back and front to give it character. There are a few markings on the neck in the first position. Frets are all in good condition with a great amount of life still in them. The action is great, low, and smooth, it’s intoned properly (I hate out of tune up the neck syndrome) and structurally solid; the neck’s been recently adjusted and set up with new strings and it comes with a hard shell case. The thing about price value when it comes to vintage guitars is: is it in good shape or will it need work? It is original or a Frankenstein when it comes to components and fixing cracks and stuff like that? This guitar is great, you can play right out of the shipping box and you’ll like it. If you want to own a piece of history at a decent price, take a look, ask me any questions, and good luck in your search. Selling to finance my first Martin. Photos and video are all recent.
