The 20” Jack Dejohnnete Encore Flat ride

Featuring maybe the driest, most focused and woody stick attack one is likely to come across. With almost no overtone buildup because of the flat profile, the notes are fast and articulate.

The cymbal is still yielding weighing 1853 grams with a quick decaying accent crash that gives subtle uniquely beautiful harmonics and a longer decay at low volume that is haunting and flutters like a wind borne song.

This instrument is designed for unbounded creativity. Maybe a special mode of play: somewhere between pure inspired modern jazz, or maybe an organic ambient inspired crossover, with limitless low volume texturing possibilities.

Conditionwise: The finish has been buffed in one area to a beautiful ”restart” where a former owner had left really awful looking tape residue, which choked the sound badly.

Now it has a golden locket in that corner which sheds light on the hand hammering of the cymbal contrasting the dry patina of its given pedigree .

Whether this lends an actual hint of bright tone to match the dominant dryness, is totally debatable for your ear: but without a doubt improves the choked out sound with the tape, And the esthetics have been vastly improved upon.

I love this cymbal and it has been an honor to have it in my keeping for some time, so I hope it finds a home for its creative uses, which are manifest. It’s not like something you will find in modern offering these days.
