Up for sale, a 1992 Orville by Gibson Les Paul Standard Quilted Maple model LPS-QM in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. One of the rarest "Orville by Gibson" instruments and the highest tiered model offered, this Les Paul is elevated by its stunning bookmatched, carved quilted maple two-piece top. Made exclusively for the Japanese market and uncommon outside its country of origin, this Orville is an official Gibson-licensed guitar and a result of a partnership between Gibson USA and their Japanese distributor Yamano Gakki. Named after Gibson's founder, Orville Gibson, this long-since discontinued Orville model was crafted at the Terada factory.

Differentiated from the standard Orville-branded instruments, the "Orville by Gibson" guitars represented the highest tier of Japanese construction, outfitted from the factory with USA Gibson pickups. The two-piece bookmatched quilted maple top paired with a solid mahogany body and a one-piece neck capped with a bound rosewood fretboard. The USA-made Gibson 490R (neck) and 490T (bridge) humbuckers have great top end articulation and tailored mids for maximum clarity across their wide dynamic range. The neck pickup is warm and rich, while the bridge pickup has a drive-ready, aggressive bite. This LPS-QM weighs 9lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Cherry Sunburst finish highlights the deep, dimensional and highly consistent figuring across the two-piece quilted maple top. There is very faint speckling in the clear coat on the top (likely a reaction to Japan’s humid climate), along with buckle rash at the bass-side upper bout on the back, through to the mahogany along the edge, and a handful of other minor dings on the back and along the lower bout perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with a few shallow nicks along the profile length that have no impact on playability.
