Here we have an all original 60's early 70's Norma EB-3 copy short scale bass. This ignored for decades instrument came in the shop and it was in need of much love which I gave it and the bass showed it's appreciation as it turned out fantastic. I gave it a really good total cosmetic clean up inside and out. The bridge cover still has the foam mute.

As always I cleaned and seasoned the rosewood fretboard installing a fresh set of Ernie Ball roundwound short scale bass strings .40-.100 and this bass is ready to pick up and play. All the electronics have been cleaned and working flawlessly. Scale length is 30 1/2".

The frets show no wear or pitting and the fretboard has a nice piece of rosewood. The playing action is nice and easy with an easy adjustable bridge for the string height you like. The pickups are strong with tons of tone and the machine heads are holding nice and tight.

Cosmetically the bass has a nice overall clean vintage look with quite a few dings, bumps, blemishes, and scratches, that you can see in the many pictures. Nothing serious and no repairs anywhere.

Comes with the pictured new thick padded gig bag.

As a retired professional bassist of 60 plus years, I give this bass 2 thumbs up.

ONLINE info:

A 1960s-1970s Japanese-made Norma or similar lawsuit-era EB-3 copy features a bolt-on neck (often maple), mahogany-veneer body, and a large pickguard. These, often built by Matsumoku, are "very good" for their vintage vibe, featuring high-output "mudbucker" neck pickups (approx. 15k) and trebly bridge pickups.

Specifications & Characteristics

  • Body: Usually a mahogany sandwich or plywood with veneer, following the SG-style double-cutaway design.
  • Neck: Bolt-on, often 3-piece maple or mahogany.
  • Pickguard: Large, multi-ply plastic pickguard covering a significant portion of the body.
  • Electronics: Typically two pickups (neck humbucker, bridge mini-humbucker) with 2-volume/2-tone controls.

NOTE: Too cool. We just shipped very recently in the last few months a 1967 MapleGlo Rickenbacker 6-12 Converter 'comb' guitar to Billy Corigan of Smashing Pumpkins! We also then shipped a vintage 50 watt Marshall head to L.A. studio-touring guitarist extraodinaire, Michael Landau, and 2 vintage guitars to Jack White's organization down in Nashville just a few days before his 50th. birthday! mmm? Add 'The Kentucky Head Hunters' to the list, just sold Greg a cool little 50's Valco tube combo amp!

Gordy's Music has become a Detroit institution! Our shop was used as a filming location for a few films like "Miracle in Motor City" a Christmas movie on Lifetime (featuring Smoky Robinson). We've supplied gear for movies including "Bill & Ted Face The Music" with Keanu Reeves. We've got decades of celebrity customers, including recent visits from Beck, Eric Johnson, and we recently sold Billy Joel's bassist a cool Gibson SG he is in love with. One day a while back Andre 3000 and his group stopped in to browse as they were playing Masonic Temple that night and right after that we sold an old oil can Morley Wah Vibrato pedal to Credence Clearwater Revival's thee John Fogerty!

We are having and have had a lot of fun here at Gordy's Music! I was just remembering about 35 years ago a tour bus pulled up to our little shop, and who rolls right in and hangs out for an hour? Lenny Kravitz and his entire group, right about the same time I was selling many guitars to and chauffeuring around Dee Dee Ramone who had an apartment a block down from my house.
