This is one of the earliest American Vintage Reissue Stratocasters ever made - a 1982 Fullerton factory instrument, serial number V009681, produced in the very first year of the AVRI program. If you know your Fender history, you know what that means.

Finish is the stunning and rare Fiesta Red custom color, and it has held up beautifully - vibrant, deep, and everything you'd want from a 40+ year old lacquer finish. The neck is the coveted early V-shape profile, period correct and incredibly comfortable once you get used to it. Three-ply white pickguard with original flat-pole single coil pickups (black bobbins), braided cloth wiring, original CTS pots with correct date codes, and a period-correct red capacitor. Everything is 100% stock and untouched.

I picked this guitar up last summer at a vintage shop in Nashville — you can see the shop in the photos - and it has been professionally set up by a luthier since. It plays as good as it looks. The reason I'm letting it go is bittersweet: I recently acquired an actual 1962 original Stratocaster, which has made the AVRI redundant in my collection despite how special it is. Heavy heart sale.

Comes with the original Fender tweed hardshell case.

Condition is excellent for a 44-year old instrument - a few minor play marks consistent with age, nothing structural, no repairs, no modifications.

Highlights:

  • 1982 Fullerton factory - first year of AVRI production
  • Serial V009681 - extremely early production number
  • Fiesta Red custom color - rare and desirable (90% of these reissues came out in 3TS)
  • V-shape neck profile - early production detail
  • All original electronics, pickups, hardware
  • Dark Rosewood fretboard
  • Recently professionally set up
  • Original Fender tweed hardshell case included
  • Weight: 3.5kg
  • Purchased last summer in Nashville, TN

Comes with the original Fender tweed hardshell case. The guitar plays beautifully - action is spot on, intonation perfect, and it feels like a dream in the hand.

I also have a video where I compare this guitar head-to-head with my actual 1962 original Stratocaster. The AVRI holds its own remarkably well - judge for yourself. Video available upon request.
