The EarthQuaker Devices Hoof Reaper V1 is a dual-fuzz boutique pedal that combines two of the brand's popular circuits, the Hoof and the Tone Reaper, with an independent analog octave up. This version is currently out of production, as it was replaced by the V2 which introduced soft-relay switching and top-mounted jacks. 

Key Features & Internal Circuits:

The pedal features three distinct effects that can be used individually or stacked in a preset serial path (Octave > Tone Reaper > Hoof) for up to seven sound combinations. 

• The Hoof (Fuzz): A hybrid germanium/silicon fuzz based on the classic green Russian Big Muff. It offers a tighter, cleaner sound than most Muffs and includes a Shift knob to control mid-frequency response (scooped to the right, pronounced to the left).
• The Tone Reaper (Fuzz): A vintage-style fuzz based on the "3-knob" Tone Bender. It is also a hybrid design (silicon/germanium) capable of producing everything from thin, "spitty" sounds to thick, growling sustain.
• Analog Octave (Octave Up): A monophonic octave-up circuit. It is most effective when used with the neck pickup and played above the 12th fret.

• Switching: V1 uses traditional mechanical "click" footswitches (unlike the V2's momentary/latching Flexi-Switching).

Performance Notes

• Stacking: Users often stack the Reaper into the Hoof for a "wall of sound" effect.
• Placement: The Tone Reaper side is sensitive to buffers; for the most "wild" and interactive response, it is generally recommended to place the pedal first in your signal chain before any buffered pedals.
• Bass Guitar: It is noted as being highly effective for bass, maintaining low-end clarity while providing thick fuzz.
