Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a classic older general purpose microphone made by Electro Voice in the 1950's. This is the more expensive variant of the 2nd generation 630 that has the polished chrome housing and looks very nice. It functions perfectly with a strong 100% signal and set at high impedance. It just needs a standard XLR cable in which to operate.
Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old E.V catalog I have showing the mics basic characteristics. I very rarely get these mics in and it's the first of two I've had to offer in a few years now.
You'll notice right away that this 635 is slightly modified. The 635 was originally a dual impedance microphone with a switch on the lower pistol grip that allowed you to quickly change the setting from low Z to High Z depending on the users needs. That being said, a previous owner from many years ago decided that he wanted an on / off switch on his mic instead of dual Z.
There is a perfect working on / off toggle switch that was very professionally installed into the label of the mic where the dual lever used to be. The switch works perfect and the mic is on the Hi Z setting. The wiring for dual Z is still intact but you'll need the original lever to change it back to how it used to be so just know that this is currently a Hi Z mic only.
The signal strength is 100%. Dirty and void of bass as to be expected from a Hi Z dynamic mic of this era. It would be a great HAM radio mic or harp mic.
The 630 mic was typically used for dispatch and broadcasting purposes but was even used for singing for live events. This mic has a very old school and "rockabilly". It's an omni-directional mic as well. The signal strength is 100%. It will be a great HAM radio mic or harp mic.
The mic housing / head is reminiscent of the jet engines being used by several American and Soviet fighter planes of the 1940's and 50's. The look was very popular but by the 1960's the look was dated and just not as popular as the earlier models were.
The 70 + year old microphone has just typical lite wear as you can see in pictures. A few scuff marks and scratches here and there. The threads for the stand are perfect with zero stripping. The E.V label looks pretty nice and completely legible. Overall this piece is an easy 8 on a scale of 1 - 10. Again, it works like new and will do you justice.
The joint mechanism works fine with plenty of tension. I cleaned the XLR pins on this mic to ensure a perfect signal once a cable is attached.
Again, the mic just needs a standard XLR cable to operate and those are quite easy to find.
The mic will also screw onto any desk or floor stand you have.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
