This Selmer Paris Model 26 Alto Sax was professionally overhauled a few years ago and had a fork front F key installed for player convenience. The neck tenon receiver was previously replaced with an modern replacement. This instrument has around 75% of it's original lacquer. It has more on the bell compared to the rest of the body, as per the pictures. The bell bow looks like it has had some larger dents in it's life. It has recently been tuned up in our shop and is gig-ready!

From the 1927 Selmer Woodwinds Catalogue:

The Tone

The wonderful French brass, of which Selmer saxophones are made, if softer than that used by most manufacturers, and adds brilliance to the tone. The attacks in piano passages (low register included) are certain and satisfying.

Drawn Tone Holes

Henri Selmer is the first French manufacturer of saxophones to utilize drawn tone holes. By a special mechanical device the walls of the tone holes are drawn as heavy and thick as the main instrument tube or body, and tops of tone holes positively will not cut the pads.

The Padding

The pads are of hard-pressed felt, covered with the finest quality French kid. They are absolutely flat, perfectly fitted and cover at the slightest touch. These pads positively will not become mushy and soft - as done the aver saxophone pad - after a certain amount of use.

Drop Forged Keys

All keys are drop forged and hand finished, insuring maximum strength and durability. Selmer mechanism will be in fine working condition long after the cast or molded keys of an ordinary saxophone are worn out.

Lay of Keys

The pearl inlaid keys fit the fingers like a fine Selmer boehm clarinet = with easy working roller keys in correct position for the little fingers. the very "feel" of its fine mechanism inspires confidence, as it minimizes playing effort.

The Action

Of the H. Selmer (Paris) Saxophone is close and quick, resembling that of a fine Boehm flute. The springs are of specially tempered blued steel - the keys have only about two-thirds the lift of the ordinary saxophone action. Heavy finger pressure is unnecessary.

The Saxophone refined to the utmost degree. Every food feature is preserved and enhanced - all questionable features eliminated. There are no mechanical contrivances to cause difficulty and get out of order. Each key and piece of mechanism is drop forged - designed to give a lifetime of uninterrupted service.
