1992 Alembic Stanley Clarke Signature (SJ)
- The History: Alembic started in the late 60s as a consulting firm for the Grateful Dead. By the time Stanley Clarke partnered with them, they had invented the "boutique" bass category. The SJ (Signature Standard) represents a refined version of his "Brown Bass," optimized for the percussive "slap" style he pioneered.
- Technical Notes: This is a short-scale (30.75") bass, which creates higher string tension and a punchier, more focused fundamental note. The electronics are "active," using a low-pass filter system rather than standard treble/bass knobs. This allows you to sweep the frequency spectrum to find the perfect "bark."
- Why It’s Cool: It’s a precision tool. The oval inlays and hand-machined brass hardware are hallmarks of a company that refuses to use "off-the-shelf" parts. It’s a hi-fi instrument in a lo-fi world. This instrument is a 1992 model in superb condition. It is nearly identical to Clarke's (in both model year and build), which currently hangs in the Smithsonian.
This instrument includes the original hard case. The bass is in excellent condition with no cosmetic blemishes and only moderate signs of normal use. Please examine the photos closely.
