Fender Japan Offset Hybrid – JG66 Neck – Sonic Blue – HH / TOM – Unique Mixed-Spec Build

A very cool and unique offset-style Fender Japan build featuring an original JG66 Jaguar neck paired with a Sonic Blue HH-configured body. This is not a standard catalog model, but rather a well-executed mixed-spec instrument with a ton of character and a great look.

This guitar was purchased from a Japanese auction, where it was described as a limited-order Fender Japan Jaguar JG66 SBL (circa 1999–2002) with a humbucker configuration and Tune-o-Matic-style setup. While the neck is indeed a genuine JG66, the body and overall configuration suggest a non-standard factory or later hybrid assembly. Everything is cleanly done, with no signs of crude modification, making it a very cohesive and visually striking instrument.

The design sits somewhere between a Jaguar and a Jazzmaster, featuring a solid offset body, a one-piece pickguard, and a Tune-o-Matic bridge with stop tailpiece for improved stability and sustain. The Sonic Blue finish looks fantastic and gives the guitar a distinct vintage-meets-custom-shop vibe.

Condition-wise, the guitar is in good overall shape with some minor cosmetic wear - small dings on the body (see photos), light finish checking around the neck pocket (a common occurrence on Fender-style instruments), and visible marks from previous stickers on the pickguard and body.

The frets have been lightly leveled and fully polished, and are in great playing condition with smooth feel across the neck.

Electronics feature a very cool and tasteful setup:
• Neck: original Fender Japan Jaguar single-coil mounted in a humbucker ring
• Bridge: Seymour Duncan SH-4 (JB)

The following work has been done: full cleaning, lemon oil fretboard treatment, fret leveling / polishing and string height setup (2.3 mm at the 12th fret on the low E string), pickup height adjusted for balance and clarity, and a fresh set of D'Addario XL 10/46 strings installed.
