General introduction and background:

Beautiful Kawai made, “Mosrite”-style guitar. Made in Japan. This is from the late 1960s, 1968-1969 ish. There is a very similar Sakai made copy if it out there, but the Kawai one can be identified by a slightly different body shape, ever so slightly different hardware, pickups, wiring and – the body is solid wood and not plywood as on the Sakai one. Note that the pickups on the Kawai may look similar, but are not, and are wired in series rather than parallel.

Due to some cosmetic issues, I am selling this one cheaper than the last one.

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale: 628 mm

-Nut: 41 mm

-Pickups: three nice and chimey single coils measuring at about 2,5 kOhm each, 3x volume, 1x tone; when switched in combination, the pickups go into series mode and add in volume to one another.

-Weight: ~2,8 kg

-Body: solid wood, probably basswood.

-Neck: some exotic east Asian wood, much like Korina, with a rosewood fingerboard. Rounded fretboard radius (likely 7,25’’), very small and low vintage frets (typical for the era)

Condition:

-Body: good condition with a couple of dings and dongs, big scratch on the lower horn, tiny lacquer fissure in the neck pocket, a bit of rash on the back.

-Neck: straight neck, no serious buzz or fretting out. No side dots. The frets on this models have always been very low, and so they are here.

A part of the binding has been broken off on the upper side of the neck in an area where the player usually is not playing, and apparently a part of the wood came off with it - this has been "fixed" with lacquer to prevent any further damage and is a cosmetic issue only.

-Electronics: all functional, switches and pots have been cleaned, but might still crackle a bit at times.

-Hardware: fully functional; some scratches on the pickguard; non original tuners and non original tremolo arm

-Originality: all original state except for the tuners and the tremolo arm.

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: The guitar plays easily with a string action of 1,8 mm at the 12th fret, if you are used to vintage fretboards with low and narrow frets. Slim neck, no side dots.

-Sound: nice chimey and transparent singlecoil goodness. Ideal for rhythm guitar in a garage, indie pop or drone scenario – please watch the video (it is not this exact guitar, but the same model)

Repairs, Service:

-Extensive cleaning

-Extensive polishing and caring for the fretboard

-New 10 gauge Pyramid all nickel strings put on

-Completely set up

-Ready to be played (just tune it up)

-No case or gigbag included. It will be wrapped well, and put into a sturdy cardboard box with lots of filler material.
