Fender American Vintage '52 Telecaster BTB 1995

Since its inception in 1982, the American Vintage series has consistently been a core model for Fender. Despite its popularity as the top model in the regular lineup, production has ended, and its specifications and concept have been carried on in the American Original series.

This particular example is Fender's attempt at faithfully reproducing the '52 Telecaster down to the smallest details. According to the date stamp in the neck pocket, it was manufactured in December 1995, and weighs 3.58kg.

The combination of an ash body and a thick U-grip one-piece maple neck with generously rounded edges, slot screws throughout and "dark circuit" or "blackguard" wiring make it very similar to bonafide '52 Tele specifications. It should be noted that the dark circuit wiring is indeed very dark when using the neck pickup and works like this:

Front (Neck) Position: Neck pickup only, no connection to tone control.
Center Position: Neck pickup only but connected to the tone control.
Rear (Bridge) Position: Bridge pickup only and connected to the tone control like a modern Tele.

A solid look, and high-quality dark wood not found in current models. The dark maple neck, which has aged nicely since the 90s, also offers good playability. As the name suggests, it has a dry, vintage sound that closely matches the player's desired tone. The frets are worn, but it is currently usable, and if it is refretted and the selector is changed to a standard 3-way, it will become a truly easy-to-use guitar. If you own this, it will serve you well as a well-made Telecaster for a lifetime.
