Ever heard of Jimmy Page?
He has this to say about the model Gibson A-2. . . .
"Battle of Evermore' was made up on the spot (during the famous "Hedley Grange" recordings) by Robert [Plant] and myself. I just picked up John Paul Jones's mandolin, never having played a mandolin before, and just wrote up the chords and the whole thing in one sitting."
If it's good enough for Jimmy, I'm sure it will be a killer addition to your collection.
Up for sale here is my:
100+ year old Gibson A-2 style mandolin in exceptionally good condition for its age and full of plenty more life. This 1920 Gibson A-2 Mandolin is a well maintained vintage instrument known for its signature Gibson sound. It is fully functional, delivering a deep, resonant tone shaped by a century of use. Ideal for both players and collectors, it features consistent body wear and a strong low-end tone. Original case is included.

- A-Style Body
- "Paddle" headstock
- Original Tuners
- Original Pick Guard Assembly (with the desirable "PAT. JULY 4. 1911")
- Pick guard: To me it seems like the original, I would be surprised if it isn't. . . but won't guarantee this to be safe.
- Original Case Included
- Vintage: Very Good Condition
- Professionally set up by Indianapolis Luthier (Grandon Westlund)
- Repairs: If there were any, they did a hell of a job. I've looked this over many times through the years. In the natural light, and a magnifying glass, it is possible that the heel was delicately reinforced, but there is no evidence of any cracks or imperfections.
The finish is in great shape only a few "light "dings" and superficial scratches. There is possibly light overspray, which is common for these to have had some TLC along it's century long journey.
This instrument sounds and shows very well. This A2 has seen many Irish Sessions; it projects bright and lively in a room full of instruments and audience.
If you collect or play don't think you will find a better one.
PLEASE ask questions if you have them. I am happy to answer and provide additional pictures, etc.
Also - during the first 30 days of listing (if it lasts that long) I will not have the "make an offer" active. If you are a serious buyer, please "message seller" and ask questions and/or provide rationale for any offer you might have. This is an amazing instrument, and I want to make sure it goes to a good home. I do not want to sell this to a retail store to be resold for a profit. This Mando deserves to be played and enjoyed.
Insured shipping only to a verified US address. I will pack this thing like a tank and take all shipping precautions for you.
