1-3/4″ width at nut
Another great Gibson L-50 has come into the shop. It has the expected generous “C” profile neck. It is larger than your standard neck, but it isn’t as extreme as some of the “baseball bat” necks Gibson sometimes produced in the 30’s and 40’s.
The Ebony peghead has the “Gibson” decal at the. Truss rod access before the bone nut. Non-original Made in Germany Nickel tuners. The Rosewood fingerboard has MOP dot inlays and white side dot position markers. The Mahogany neck has some light wear that is not noticeable while playing. The neck had a break a long time ago and was repaired and darkened to blend with the original finish .
The tobacco sunburst Spruce top has expected dings, scratches, and finish checking from years of use and being around for 80+ years. Center seam crack repair by the tailpiece, and a crack repair on the bass side of the top by the waist that extends to the f-hole. Two-piece Rosewood bridge, nickel trapeze tailpiece. Antiqued binding on the top edge of the Spruce top. The Maple back and sides have some dings and scratches and a fair amount of finish checking. Appears to possibly be a crack repair on the bass side of the waist by the heel, but it could also be a finish check. Other than that, the back and sides do not appear to have any other repairs.
This Late 1930’s Gibson L-50 is just as nice as any other L-50’s we’ve had in lately tonally and playability wise. It just had a full refret so it is playing very nice and will be for quite some time. Comes with a non-original hard case.
