Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic 1970's era Shure Brothers 565SD model (Unisphere 1) dynamic cardioid microphone with an older Shure A-25 mic clip and cable in which to operate the mic.   This 565SD model was introduced in the 1960's and was made for several decades. This is the older American made 1970's / 80's model not the newer 1990's Mexican made 565SD. The 565SD is still being made today but currently coming out of China. This was a widely used model with many famous musicians at that time period. Bar none one of the best sounding and most reliable Shure mics ever made.

Pic # 2 is an old 1970's Shure advertisement showing this earlier version and it's characteristics.

Pic # 3 shows Jimmy Hendrix using the 565SD while performing live.

Despite it's age the mic works like new and sounds incredible The mic is actually set at high Z having a smooth clear tone and will be an excellent choice for any studio application.   Broadcasting, recording and singing purposes is where the 565SD shines.

While most 565SD mics were set at Low Z there were some that were sold as the Hi Z model and it was done this way by reconfiguring the way the mic was wired on it's XLR connection within the handle. Normally a Low Z mic has the # 2 pin as hot but that's not the case on this mic. For the Hi Z setting the hot pin is actually # 3 so I had to custom build the cable this mic comes with in order to operate the mic. If you try to use any other XLR cable on this mic it won' work because again, Shure wired this to be Hi Z not Low Z.

Eventually Shure stopped doing this on the 565SD and just offered the PE65D as a Hi Z 565SD model. You'll find that Shure did the whole Hi Z configuration on a handful of their older mics for a short time.

This 565SD has been cleaned and tested...sounds just like the day it was sold. A very high quality Shure product with excellent uni-directional pattern blocking out most background noise.

As you can see in the pictures provided the finish has very lite cosmetic wear on the satin chrome handle. Just a few tiny scuff marks and scratches on the black plastic cartridge. It has a beautiful luster still. The Shure label that encircles the lower globe shows just lite wear and completely legible. The chrome front globe shows one very subtle dent but zero tarnish and no odors. It has a nice new interior foam liner / pop filter under the globe to help with unwanted feedback from wind or strong breathing. No loose parts.

I'm also including the new Auray brand exterior pop filter as an added layer of sound improvement that fits the mic like a glove and looks great on the mic. You probably won't need it for all applications but it's there just in case.

I did clean the XLR pins on the mic which you need to do every decade or so as they tarnish and cause connectivity issues when a cable is attached.

This mic takes the specialized XLR cable which is included. It's appx 16 feet in length. Soft, pliable and in excellent physical condition. It comes with the standard male 1/4 inch end connector for use with most audio equipment and all guitar amps. If you have any Hi Z audio equipment then this mic is really going to shine.

The mic also comes with an older Shure A-25 model mic clip that works perfect for this mic. It fits snug on the mic and will screw onto any desk or floor stand. Provides a wide degree of tilt up and down. The clip shows just lite wear.

If you demand an excellent working 565SD to use frequently...this is your mic.

This mic is an easy 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10 and about as nice as you can ask for from a 40 to 50 year old mic.

Hook this one up and you are ready for any live event.
