Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very rare and seldom seen older general purpose microphone made by Electro Voice for a very short time during the 1940's. This microphone closely resembles the more common 630 model and it comes with the period 1940's era Astatic E6G detachable desk stand shown.

Pic # 2 shows this very model in a 1940's Electro Voice catalog along with several others mic models of that era.

It should be noted that while this stand is 100% complete and in very nice physical condition it has a dead element and should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. It's what I would call museum quality and would make a fantastic part of any fine vintage mic collection.

This 612 model mic came in both the polished chrome and a unique golden brown paint scheme. This is the more desirable chrome example. I have only ever personally seen two other examples of these 612 model mics before. I believe they were only sold for a couple years as I have never seen them listed in any other E.V catalog except the one I have from 1946. I'm not sure why E.V stopped selling them but the front grill is quite different from the style of the 630 model.

The 80 year old microphone has extremely lite wear as you can see in pictures with just a few small scratches and scuff marks. It's free of any dents or fractures. The threads for the stand are perfect. The E.V label shows lite wear but still completely legible. Overall this piece is an easy 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 though some might rate higher.

The joint mechanism works fine with plenty of tension. The on / off switch works great as well and just needs a replacement element to operate. This is a really unique mic and will be a great conversation piece anywhere it's displayed.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The mic comes with the period Astatic E6G detachable model desk stand from the 1940's era and perfect for just about any older vintage microphone you have. It's an attractive wood / metal design with a two tone paint scheme that makes for a very stable platform.

The handle is made of wood and has a painted Kona brown finish. The handle will come off the base with a half twist allowing the user to walk around with the mic via the handle. Holding an actually mic back then was considered taboo so these handles fixed that issue.

You can then slide the handle back into the base and secure it with another half twist until it tightens into place.

The base is aluminum and has a beautiful gloss black finish. the base is free of damage and has the original rubber pads on the bottom.

Total dimension with the mic and stand is 12 inches tall X 5 inches wide X 5 inches tall.

I'd rate the stand a true 9 on a scale of 1 -10. A very rare mic that will only go up in value as the years go by.
