Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very special find that rarely ever pops up. It's a very early 1st generation 1940's era older general purpose microphone made by Electro Voice designed to be used for a variety of situations but primarily for communication and general broadcasting. This 630 has the polished chrome housing and while it still works great the on / off switch is defective as the mic is on at all times and this mic should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. It comes with the period adjustable desk stand shown in which to display.

You'll notice right away that this particular 630 has a strange front grill. Yes, it's original. You'll see in the difference between this early first gen model and the later 1950's era 630. Apparently E.V made the 630 with this design for only a year or two having an extra ring compared to all the other 630 mics you see around. The 3 ring front grill was quickly replaced with a 2 ring design and I'm not quite sure why E.V did so but perhaps they were trying to close off the front a bit more to improve sound performance? I actually like the rarer version a lot better as it just has tons more character.

The rest of the 630 body was the same as the 1st generation 630 that you see in the 1940's advertisement seen in pic # 2. If you are a collector of the rare and unique then this 630 will certainly do the job. this is just the third example I have from over the past 10 years and I just never come across these early 630's.

The mic housing / head is reminiscent of the jet engines being used by several American and Soviet fight planes of the day.

The 70 + year old microphone has typical wear as you can see in pictures with pitting, lite scratches and a few scuff marks but free of any dents or fractures. The chrome has a nice luster still. The threads for the cable and stand are perfect with zero stripping. The E.V label shows very lite wear and still completely legible. Overall this piece is an very easy 6 on a scale of 1 - 10.

The joint mechanism works fine with plenty of tension. The on / off switch works great as well.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The mic comes with a period chrome plated adjustable microphone desk stand. This is an all brass stand with a polished chrome finish on the base and  stems / risers. I do not know the manufacturer of the stand but I have come across a few of these over the years. As you can see the stand thread itself is universal and any mic or mic clip will technically mate to the top of it.

It has an older deco vibe with a 3 tier "waterfall" design that really compliments the 630 and makes for a very stable platform despite it's lite weight design.

This particular stand has typical wear as you can see. Some small scuff marks, scratches and lite corrosion on the base. There are no dents or fractures on this stand and the polished chrome stem shows very lite wear as well. The only flaw in the stand functionally speaking is that the clutch mechanism is worn so the top riser has a harder time staying upright. Just better to let the top riser sit low where it's at. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide.

Mic stand with mic is appx 14 inches tall X 5 3/4 inches wide. The stand can be used on small, medium and some larger mics. Mic stand is a true 6 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

This will make a great display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office. Again, super rare and great overall finish.
