Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.

If you are buying a Shure 51 on Ebay that is NOT promised to work or work well at that...you might be asking for trouble. About half the Shure 51's I've come across do not work or just barely. This particular example shown however sounds like new with a strong, clear signal and zero issues. It should be noted that the impedance switch on this mic works perfectly as well.   The mic comes with a vintage cable in which to operate and the period 1940's Atlas floor stand shown.

The last 4 pics shown is the exact same mic and stand as the previously pics shown.

You are looking at a Shure Brothers 51 Dynamic model microphone that was manufactured in Chicago, ILL sometime between 1947 and 1956. Shure eventually changed the look of the Shure 51 in 1960 changing the lower pistol grip and putting black silk screens inside instead of the early red silk screens. After 1964 Shure changed the model to the black foam screens. I believe Shure Brothers stopped manufacturing this mic in 1969 or 1970. These mics have a little weight to them being almost 2 pounds. This mic has very clean lines and one of the most famous designs in the Shure Brothers line up.

Pic # 2 shows the 51 as well as the same floor stand being used for several years by musical legend Jerry Lee Lewis earlier in his career. Is this the same pair? I doubt it but what if it was??? :)

Pic # 3 is of an old Shure mic catalog I have showing the 51 and it's basic characteristics.

This Shure 51 has the satin chrome finish with all metal construction making the mic quite rugged.

This mic has a dirtier "rockabilly" tone that many musicians like to replicate today. If that is the sound you are going for then you are going to like this mic. The Shure 51 is an omni-directional microphone. Void of any bass really and excellent as a harp mic or as a lead mic for any blues or jazz band.

This Shure 51 is pretty dang nice looking overall.

The finish shows just lite wear as seen in the pictures provided. There are no engravings, dents or scratches on the satin chrome finish. The satin chrome really glows. The ribs are straight with no fractures or dents. The joint mechanism holds strong like it should as well and can be tightened as needed with a screw driver. The front inner red silk screen however does have some very subtle discoloration but no odors or rips.

The threading for the stand is excellent as is for the cable.

Included is the long 26 foot, 3 pin cable with a male 1/4 inch end connector for use with most audio equipment and all guitar amps. The cable is soft, pliable and free of damage and gives you quite a bit of room to work with. You can always take this mic off the stand provided and screw it onto any stand you'd like though a stand is provided.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The floor stand is a period Bogen model floor stand from the mid 1940's and is a great platform for the Shure 51 giving you a bit of height to work with and good stability.

The Bogen stand has great style and a bit of deco influence with it's 3 tier "waterall" design.

The stand is built like a tank with a solid cast iron base and two nice chrome risers. You have plenty of height to work with as it raises up to 65 inches. The stand weighs roughly 11 pounds and has a nice painted black finish. The two chrome risers are actually made of brass with a chrome plate. The plate is worn in small spots here and there exposing the brass beneath The clutch mechanism works perfectly. Please let the pics be your guide.

There are just very lite stains on the bottom of the base. It has the 3 original rubber pads that keep the base from scratching your floor and they are very well applied.

This mic with stand is going to be great for daily use. An easy 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10 though some might rate higher.

If you need a fun and very cool mic to work with to get that old school tone then this combo set will do you justice.

As with all my vintage microphones...
