Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at an older Astatic 850-S dynamic cardioid microphone from the 1960's or 70's which was a quality, rugged model. An all metal construction with a beautiful satin chrome finish and a painted lower pistol grip. It comes with the period Calrad DS-2 model desk stand in which to display. It should be noted right away that the mic has been thoroughly tested and cleaned. The mic does work but the signal is only 50% and cannot be used for any live purposes. it should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only.

The Astatic 850-S has a classic mid century design and will make a nice display piece anywhere it sits. This model was a cardioid microphone set at Low Z and had good tone but again, very weak working.

The satin chrome finish glows nicely and shows zero wear. The black painted metal on the lower pistol grip shows a little more wear in the form of paint loss but still looks good and free of any corrosion, dents or fractures. The mesh screen looks excellent as well. The mics joint mechanism provides plenty of tension and allows you to get just the right amount of tilt needed once the mic is mounted to the stand.

It should be noted that the on / off switch slides smooth and works excellent.

The mic takes a unique 4 pin XLR cable which is not provided so you'll want to secure one if you plan on replacing the element in this mic.

This microphone will screw onto any desk of floor stand you have.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

The stand is a period Calrad (Japanese) DS-2 model with a chrome riser and plastic base. The stand actually makes for a very stable platform despite it's lite weight and compliments the mic. It has lite wear on the base as you can see but very good overall and free of any fractures or heavy wear. Just a few scuff marks and spots of discoloration.

The stand has wear consistent with the mic. It's appx 11 inches tall with the mic on top (when raised fully upright) X 5 inches wide.

As with all my vintage microphones for sale...
