Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

If you are looking for something a little different for the vintage mic collection then you might want to consider this very unique and rarer Altec 660B Dynamic microphone manufactured in the late 1950's to mid 1960's. The mic has a very modern / contemporary design that was a signature part of Altec's line up. Very similar to the more common Altec 633A model but smaller and has a different paint scheme. It comes with all the accessories shown including the period Altec 24A desk stand. This 660B model was a short run microphone.

This style of mic was very popular in the 1940's to 1950's but the design of microphones had changed drastically by the 1960's where stick mics were far more desired so this 660B didn't sell as well and was probably only sold for 5 years or less before being discontinued so you just very rarely see these around.

This mic was called a "salt shaker" due to it's very unique and obvious styling. This particular model has a blue / grey paint scheme. It was the replacement for the 633A and has the same overall design. The front grill has the 3 propeller design which was originally based on the radial engines of airplanes from the 1940's and very nostalgic. The microphone has been tested and no longer works as the element is dead and this should be used for prop, display or repair purposes only.

Still a very special and hard to find mic that will make an incredible display piece anywhere in the home, office or studio.

This mic is being sold for far less than it would be if it was working. I've seen a working 660B mic alone go for upwards of $300.00 on Ebay and Reverb in excellent working condition. The element can always be replaced with another working dynamic element if you are willing to put a couple hours into it.

You'll notice right away that the 660B and 24A stand are in very nice overall condition and certainly way above average though the mic shows a bit more wear. There are typical small scratches and tiny paint chips on the mic but it's free of dents, fractures or corrosion. I'd rate the condition of the mic a true 7 + and stand a true 8 +. These older mics and stands are usually in very rough physical condition.

The mic comes with an Atlas 4 inch chrome riser that gives you some decent height and angle to work with. There is an original 1 foot cable that runs down the length of the riser exiting out the rear of the base. The cable is properly wired in case you ever plan on replacing the element with something that actually works.

The cable is soft, pliable and shows no exterior wear. It comes with a vintage quality Cannon female XLR end connector that's properly wired and completes the look of this display piece.

The base is quite heavy and has a beautiful paint scheme. It's the older aluminum cast 24A type with the opening that runs the length of the stand giving it a lot of character and making it very practical for seating / hiding the cable. It comes with the 3 original felt pads on the bottom as well that are in excellent shape. This cast aluminum base has slight imperfections but otherwise is quite beautiful and was a more expensive design compared to most stands of it's era. Very stable and almost impossible to flip over.

The dimensions of the mic with stand are appx 9 high X 4 1/2 wide X 7 inches deep. Weighs roughly about 5 pounds total so foreign shipping will be a bit spendy due to much higher shipping prices as of lately.

These older Altec model mics seem to be even more collectible than the Shure 55S interestingly enough and harder to come by. They keep rising in value so this is a good investment at the end of the day. Very few collectors will have this combo to display.

As with all my vintage items...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
