This 1913 Buescher True Tone is a genuine piece of musical history, and honestly, it’s pretty incredible to find one that has survived over a century in this kind of shape. It features a beautiful satin silver finish with those classic polished silver accents and a gold wash inside the bell that still catches the light. You can tell this was a flagship instrument in its day, and it has been remarkably well-preserved since it left the factory over 110 years ago.
I’ve spent some time playing it, and it really holds its own. The horn seems to have had a full overhaul not too long ago because the pads and corks are in excellent condition. While it’s clearly been played a bit since that work was done, the pads still look very fresh and seal well. Of course, since it’s a vintage instrument from 1913, you’re going to see some typical dings, dents, and scratches here and there, but for a horn this old, the overall condition is truly impressive. It is worth mentioning that all of those tiny dings or dents are purely cosmetic and don't affect the sound or the way it plays whatsoever.
It’s important to note for any prospective buyer that this is a High Pitch saxophone (Serial #19419). Back then, pitch standards weren't as unified as they are today, so this instrument plays about a half-step sharp compared to modern Low Pitch gear. It still sounds fantastic and makes great music, but you won't be able to tune it to a modern piano or ensemble unless you're transposing everything down a half-step.
I’m including everything you need to get started right away, including the original neck and the original wooden case. I'm also throwing in a brand-new Yamaha baritone mouthpiece, three brand-new Rico reeds, and a brand-new neck strap, along with a used ligature to round out the setup. Finding a True Tone baritone this clean is a rare occurrence, making it a special find for a collector or a player who appreciates the unique character of these early American-made horns.
